Taylor Swift has shared the video for The Fate of Ophelia.
The track opens the global pop superstar's new album, 'The Life Of A Showgirl', which came out last Friday (October 3), and the song has already racked up over 50 million streams on Spotify.
The video, meanwhile, was written and directed by Swift, and features the singers and dancers from her Eras Tour. Introducing it via Instagram, she shared:
"Writing, rehearsing, directing and shooting the music video for “The Fate of Ophelia” was the thrill of a lifetime because I got to be reunited with my Eras Tour family!! I wanted each one-take scene to feel like a live performance and remind us all of how it felt to be at those shows together. Making every moment count. It’s a journey through the chaotic world of show business. I loved working with @rpstam, @ethantobman and @nopenother to dream up these visuals. A huge thank you to this massive cast who kept it 💯 and also kept the secret of this video even existing. It’s out on YouTube NOW!"
The new album was written and recorded during the record-breaking Eras Tour last year, and saw the 14-time Grammy-winner reunite with producers Max Martin and Shellback, the Swedish songwriting duo who helped craft some of Swift's biggest hits, including 22, Blank Space, and I Knew You Were Trouble.
Swift offered a number of vinyl and CD variants of the record featuring different covers, with the CD releases also including "acoustic/unplugged versions of a few of the Showgirl songs with brand new vocals and production." She said:
"File this under “save your best for the finale”… I think my favorite moments from the tour were the acoustic surprises. So I went back into the studio with Max and Shellback to record acoustic/unplugged versions of a few of the Showgirl songs with brand new vocals and production! Cannot WAIT for you to hear:
