Don't Repeat Yourself: Introducing Seeb

Milly McMahon 22 February 2018

Norwegian production trio Seeb create precision engineered, massively popular electronic anthems charged with soaring emotions. If you haven't heard of them yet, you will soon.

Embarking on their career in music by working behind the scenes, Simen Eriksrud, Espen Berg and Niklas Strandbråten have been building on their 2016 breakthrough success: remixing Mike Posner’s dance hit I Took A Pill in Ibiza.

They’ve since worked with One Republic, Rock City and Skip Marley, along with remixing Tove Lo and Ed Sheeran, finding a balance between the progressive and accessible.

Bringing a sense of optimism, hope and futurism to the world of EDM, Seeb embrace romance and heartbreak to create a beautifully melodic landscapes. It’s dark and cold outside, but they allow us to look to postcard sunsets. Theirs is set to be the ultimate, upbeat chillwave soundtrack to 2018’s summer of love, and that begins with their support slot on Kygo’s European tour.

What specific qualities in a track will inspire you to create a remix?

The vocals have to be right. Not just the melody and lyrics, but also the vibe and energy of singer has to connect.

How has the experience of touring the globe shaped your approach to making new music?

It’s amazing and scary at the same time. Playing Tomorrowland in 2016 summed it all up: 35,000 crazy people with a big heart for your music.

What happened in your first meeting with OneRepublic?

We met Ryan Tedder in LA and we listened to some of his many fascinating stories, giving us some valuable insights into the American music industry. The collaborations with Rock City and Chloe Angelides came through our publisher, who knew them, and they were up for a collaboration with us right way.

What happens at one of your live shows?

Great music! We make special mashups and edits of our and others’ songs, and we also add keyboards on stage for live performing too. This year, before we play support to Kygo on tour we will be listening to new music and experimenting with different ways of gluing sounds together.

Your Instagram is insane, the amount of travelling and luxe lifestyle looks overwhelming. How do you manage to keep yourselves grounded, rested and focused?

We don’t party and we always support each other, so if anyone needs a break we step in. That’s one of the great things about being three in a group.

What was instrumental in incubating your success?

We were driven by the passion for making music and remixing was our way out from being regular producers and a way over to the artist scene, where we belong.

From the beginning, starting out and struggling, to now, what has remained unchanged in you?

We are always looking for new sounds and find it difficult to repeat ourselves.
